The Counter Story
Founded in 2000, Counter Editions has been a driving force in the evolution of contemporary printmaking for 25 years. What began in a modest rented office in London with just eight artists has since flourished into a dynamic force in the art world. Today, we proudly collaborate with over 100 artists and operate out of our expansive, purpose-built 5,000 sq. ft. studios in Margate.
Our journey is a testament to the power of vision, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the craft of printmaking. From the outset our ambition has always been clear: to create editions in collaboration with the world’s foremost artists, many of whom are already celebrated on the global art stage. But our vision goes beyond this. We have been equally committed to nurturing the next generation of talent, passionately dedicating our time and expertise to bring emerging artists into the realm of fine art printmaking. By doing so, we ensure that the artistic traditions of fine art printmaking not only survive but thrive, securing their future for years to come.
Our Artists
Since inception, we have collaborated with over 100 artists and produced more than 300 limited editions. Whilst we work with some of the most distinguished names in contemporary art, including Tracey Emin, Chris Ofili, Howard Hodgkin, Rachel Whiteread, Frank Bowling, and many others, we are equally committed to nurturing the next generation of talent.
From our print studio in Margate, our team works with each artist to bring their stories to life through limited editions across all mediums. Every edition is the result of a close collaborative process between the artist, master printmaker, and our curatorial team, ensuring that fine art printmaking remains a vibrant and vital medium for artistic expression.
Creative Collaborations
From fundraising for vital aid for refugees and displaced people worldwide to commemorating Save the Children’s 100th anniversary, we have brought together our community to raise millions of pounds in support of meaningful causes. We continue to collaborate with leading museums, institutions, and non-profit organisations to support initiatives that drive impact.
